About Refugee Community Kitchen
Refugee Community Kitchen is a 100% donation funded and volunteer run grassroots organisation that provides hot food on the streets of London, for people living on the streets as well as people experiencing homelessness and food poverty. Our teams provide food 6 days a week from three different kitchens served at various street side locations over London in Camden, Hackney and Brixton.
In London, we work mostly with waste and surplus food.This does mean that we never know what we’re going to get but it’s a great opportunity to be creative!
Role: Kitchen Coordinator/Cook
Start date: 15th March 2025
Based in: N.W. London
Contract type: Part time 14 hours per week over 2 days. (Currently looking for someone to commit to Friday 9am - 6pm and Saturday 9am-2pm)
Job Description: The essence of the role is to cook as well as oversee, delegate & communicate. Keeping the remit and core values alive in all aspects of the project. As well as continuing to provide healthy nutritious food to people who need it and supporting the volunteers to be safe, happy and healthy.
Requirement & Commitment:
Minimum of a year commitment.
Essential
Good command of English language with good communication skills.
Confident in bulk cooking/ catering or experience in a professional or voluntary kitchen.
Food Hygiene level 2 or 3.
Good people & leadership skills.
Desirable
Experience in world food cooking.
Experience in hospitality,
Excellent organisational skills.
Volunteer management skills.
Flexible approach to work.
Driver’s licence.
Confidence in working within volunteer teams with diverse and varied experience, skills and backgrounds.
Responsibilities:
As a Kitchen Coordinator/cook you will be expected to:
Lead & manage the kitchen team on specified days to cook for a large number of portions and give an informed handover to the service team.
Ensure that the quality of the food we serve is of the highest standard and adhering to UK food safety standards.
Ensure that meals are relevant and as accessible as possible to the people we serve.
Manage and welcome volunteers to ensure a smooth volunteer experience throughout the day.
Identify and support volunteers with potential to become leads and/or regular volunteers.
Continually encourage progression and sustainability in the volunteer recruitment process.
Monitor volunteer’s experiences to identify skill gaps and potential improvements.
